I enjoy the beach. The waves. The sun. The sand castles and moats. I just don't like the sand itself. First, it gets everywhere. (Especially in places some hidden places that isn't all that comfortable.) Second... it is hard to walk on. I need something solid to walk on and stand on.
Life is like that. We often build our life on things that aren't so firm. A love of a hobby. A love of a job. Even a love of a family. These can all be good things. But a solid firm foundation they are not. You need something that is unchanging. Something not like sand that can shift. But something like a rock. Something that will never leave you. Ever.
God has said, "Never will I leave you. Never will I forsake you." (Hebrews 13:5)
Those are comforting words. In God, in his Son Jesus, and in his Word we are given a firm foundation which is never changing. That's something to stand on. Like the man who would build his house on the rock rather than the sand (Matthew 7:24-27).
Enjoy this song! It's a cool modern folk version of the old hymn How Firm a Foundation, by Chelsea Moon and the Franz Brothers.
