Barrier #3: Lack of Knowing
Have you ever gotten into an argument with a spouse, loved one or friend? Looking back on the argument did you ever feel the argument came about because you simply were not communicating the way the other person needed to be communicated with? This happens so often in male/female relationships. I've been married nearly 11 years and marriage is great. But I'm still learning how to communicate with my bride! Sometimes I don't communicate the way she needs me to. I'm still learning about her. A lack of knowing her better is a contributing factor.
We often fail in our communication to God because we just don't know enough about him.
In John 4:20-23 the Samaritan woman at the well continues her conversation with Jesus. Jesus, the divine Son that he is, knows exactly how to communicate with the woman. Why? Because he knows her. Everything about her. He is God after all! Here's the conversation.
The woman said, "I can see that you are a prophet. Our fathers worshiped on this mountain, but you Jews claim that the place where we must worship is in Jerusalem." Jesus declared, "Believe me, woman, a time is coming when you will worship the Father neither on this mountain nor in Jerusalem. You Samaritans worship what you do not know; we worship what we do know, for salvation is from the Jews. Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks."
The woman couldn't worship God. Why? She didn't KNOW him.
Do you want to worship God? Do you want to worship him better? Do you want to have a deeper, livelier, more intimate time with the Father? Get to know him. Read the bible. It's his letter of love to you. Pray. Don't just talk. Listen. It's a conversation.
Just like I need to get to KNOW my wife better so that I can love her better, I need to get to KNOW God better so that I can love him better. Allow your knowing him better drive you in worshiping him better.
worship Him 24/7...
